PANLILIO LANDSCAPE & DESIGN INC PARTICIPATES IN BUILDING NYC
PARK ASSOCIATED LANDSCAPE CONTRACTORS OF AMERICA DONATES PARK
Elizabeth NJ — As a member of the Associated Landscape Contractors
of America (ALCA) Ping Panlilio Landscape & Design Inc. recently
met with other landscape design professionals to create the design
for a park that will be built near the World Trade Center site in
Lower Manhattan. “We are honored to be part of this significant
contribution to the citizens of Lower Manhattan and to be able to
lend our design expertise,” states Ping Panlilio.
ALCA initially offered to help with the park design and installation
at Ground Zero and spoke with some of the architects who donated
their design expertise for the site. With the timing and design
still in question at Ground Zero, the City of New York Parks and
Recreation and the Lower Manhattan Development Group suggested another
site.
They offered ALCA a site very close to Ground Zero that is just
over one-half acre in in size. It is the site where firefighters,
police and the Red Cross staged their activities during the cleanup
efforts and it is just blocks from the World Trade Center site.
Final design details for this park are being worked out, and ALCA
members are being solicited for in-kind and cash contributions.
The park is scheduled to be completed by September 11, 2004.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for ALCA members to all work
together”, adds Ping Panlilio. “This is an industry
that has the unusual capability of putting competition aside and
working together. We also have a sincere passion for this project.”
Following September 11, New York City has struggled with extreme
budget cuts due to the enormous rebuilding costs and the loss of
tourism and other revenue in Lower Manhattan. “The people
of Lower Manhattan have also suffered during all of this,”
notes Ping Panlilio. “This significant patch of green space
is very important to them and their quality of life. We are honored
to be able to help.” The park will be donated in honor of
the heroes of September 11.
Ping Panlilio Landscape and Design was created to provide services
that are both advance technically and art culturally. Their creations
are a subtle blending of Asian, Western and indigenous concepts
- a combination of textures, colors, heights, aroma and decorative
elements marks a garden that is typically theirs.
Ping Panlilio also exercises artistic control over his chosen environment,
but unlike most visual artists who work with paint or clay, he has
chosen living plants for his materials. Then through his unique
vision, his understanding of natural rhythms inherent in his materials
and his knowledge of the palette available to him, he fashions them
into the beautiful landscapes of an organized garden.
“I rarely refer to my work as formal gardens” he says,
“because a formal garden to me connotes a specified European
style. Rather, my gardens are planned environments – employing
color, texture, elevations and even aromas – to make an aesthetically
pleasing statement.”
ALCA represents approximately 2,800 members nationwide including
its core memberhsip of professional exterior and interior landscape
maintenance, installation, and design/build firms and suppliers.
